[CINE TALK] — Workshop “Developing Cinema into a Cultural Industry – Lessons from Korea and France”

Hello friends,

We are pleased to announce a special event “Conference on Developing Cinema into a Cultural Industry – Lessons from Korea and France” and a Film Screening and Networking of Mr. Kim Dong-ho, Honorary Chairman of HIFF, with the film community in Ho Chi Minh City.

Kim Dong-ho, Founder and former Chairman of the Busan International Film Festival, currently serves as Honorary Chairman and Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Ho Chi Minh City International Film Festival.

The workshop and networking will take place on the afternoon of November 16, 2023 and is an important part of Mr. Kim Dong-ho’s first official visit at the Ho Chi Minh City International Film Festival. This is a valuable opportunity for us to learn from a leading figure in the film industry and enjoy his unique film work.

Mr. Kim Dong-ho is not only one of the pioneers in building and developing the Busan International Film Festival, but also a producer, director and film critic with deep vision and experience. He has made an important contribution to the development of Korean and Asian cinema.

During this meeting, Mr. Kim Dong-ho will share about the journey of formation and development of the Busan Film Festival, the challenges and opportunities of Asian cinema in the context of globalization, as well as his valuable experiences in film industry.

This event will take place on November 16, 2023, starting at 14:00, and includes exciting activities:

PART 1: Overview of the Ho Chi Minh City’s Cultural Industries Development Strategy HCM with the leading role of Cinema

14:00 – 14:30: Reception and registration

14:30 – 14:50: Presentation by Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy, Deputy Director of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports, on the city’s cultural industry development strategy and implementation roadmap to make Ho Chi Minh City become a Film City and joining UNESCO’s creative cities network by 2025 (20-minute presentation).

PART 2: Cine Talk with Mr. Kim Dong-Ho and Mr. Jeremy – Audio-Visual Attaché for Southeast Asia – French Embassy

15:00 – 15:30: Talk with Mr. Kim Dong-Ho about the film industry in particular and the cultural industry in general.

15:30 – 15:40: Talk with Mr. Jeremy – Audio-Visual Attaché for Southeast Asia – French Embassy about the film industry in particular and the cultural industry in general.

PART 3: Cine Party & Screening of short film “Jury” (2013 – Director Kim Dong-ho)

16:00 – 16:30: Break and prepare for the short film screening.

16:30 – 17:00: A humorous short film revolving around funny situations during the work of the Busan Film Festival jury.

17:00 – 18:30: Q&A with Mr. KIM Dong-ho and networking

This is a rare opportunity to listen and discuss on various topics in the development of the film industry in particular and culture in general, and is also an event to meet and greet with the world’s and country’s leading film and culture creators.
