2015 Oscars winner to judge HCM City International Film Festival

VOV.VN – Vietnamese American television and film editor, Tom Cross, who is a 2015 Oscars winner, will serve as one of the judges for the Ho Chi Minh City International Film Festival 2024, which is scheduled to take place from April 6 to April 13.

According to the schedule he will judge the Best First or Second Film category.

Tom Cross originally began his career back in 1997 as an assistant editor on diverse projects such as We Own the Night, Crazy Heart, and the Primetime Emmy Award-Winning drama series Deadwood.

He came to worldwide prominence in 2015 when he won the Academy Award for Best Editing, the Independent Spirit Award for Best Editing, and the BAFTA Award for Best Editing for his work on Damien Chazelle’s film Whiplash.

Moving ahead to 2016, Cross reunited with writer/director Damien Chazelle on the romantic musical comedy La La Land for which he was once again nominated for an Academy Award and a BAFTA Award. He then went on to win the 2017 American Cinema Editor’s Award for his work on the film.

The Vietnamese American film editor was nominated for a 2019 BAFTA award for Best Editing for the 2017 Western drama Hostiles and an ACE Award for best edited feature film. He won the Critics’ Choice Awards for Best Editing for 2019, along with a BAFTA for best editing for the James Bond film No Time to Die which was directed by Cary Fukunaga.

His latest project, Damien Chazelle’s 2022 Babylon for Paramount, garnered him a nomination from the Critics’ Choice Awards for Best Editing.

He has recently finished editing James Wan’s upcoming film Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
